Front Description

One of 7 pins were given at Disney Stores with the purchase of a special sneak preview commemorative ticket to the opening weekend of the animated movie "Hercules" June, 1997. In the ticket purchased for the movie preview, the buyer received one pin, however there was a coupon to purchase the whole set of 7 pins (#4756) for $35.00. The back of each pin has the character’s name and X of 7. Hades, facing left, is shown from chest up. His arms are behind his head in a relaxed position and he is grinning. Hades wears a steel-gray and black robe, with blue and black necklace. His skin is light blue and his hair is dark blue. 1 1/2"W x 1 1/4"H. Hercules world premier occurred on June 13, 1997, at the New Amsterdam Theater (New York, NY) to great fanfare followed by a Hercules specific Main Street Electrical Parade in Times Square. The film is loosely based on the legendary hero Heracles (known in the film by his Roman name, Hercules), a son of Zeus in Greek mythology. The film was directed by John Musker & Ron Clements, both of whom also produced the film with Alice Dewey Goldstone. The film follows the titular Hercules, a demigod with super-strength raised among mortals, who must learn to become a true hero in order to earn back his godhood and place in Mt. Olympus, while his evil uncle Hades plots his downfall. The film received generally positive reviews from film critics, with James Woods's performance as Hades receiving particular praise, but the animation (particularly the visual style) & music received a mixed response. The film under-performed in its theatrical release notably in comparison to previous animated Disney films. The soundtrack includes the single version of "Go the Distance" by Michael Bolton. This was the last Disney Renaissance film that Alan Menken composed music for. “Go the Distance” was nominated for, but did not win, Best Original Song at the 1998 Academy Awards. Disney intended for the film to have an open-air premiere at Pnyx hill (Athens Greece), but the Greek government declined after the Greek media public panned the film. Greek newspaper Adesmevtos Typos called it "another case of foreigners distorting our history and culture just to suit their commercial interests". Set: Hercules logo #4507, Hercules #3472, Megara #1554, Phil/Philoctetes #3474, Baby Pegasus #1311, Pain & Panic #2449, Hades #4506.
