This pin was released in Disneyland as part of a limited edition set of 31 pins saluting the United States' participation in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Pluto, against a blue background, on right with face toward left and body facing righ, is ready to hit a white volleyball. Pluto has on a pair of light blue shorts. A gold-colored volleyball net is behind Pluto. Disneyland released a total of 31 pins in this set titled, “Olympic Team Salute 1988 USA”. 30 of the pins feature Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy or Pluto on each pin, participating in an Olympic event. The pins have a background color of either red, white, or blue (10 each). All pins have a clear epoxy top coating, are rectangular with gold trim, the Olympic rings, and the words "Disneyland Olympic Team Salute 1988 USA. 1 1/4"W x 7/8"H. The 31st pin (#4633) is dark blue with the Sleeping Beauty Castle at the top in rainbow hues and a gold arc above it. Beneath are USA and the Olympic rings in gold, followed by the words "Olympic Team Salute 1988, Disneyland.” There is a framed set with all pins and a commemorative plaque in the middle #5007, however that pin in PinPics is missing one of the event/character pins. The 1988 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXIV Olympiad and commonly known as Seoul 1988, was an international multi-sport event held from September 17 to October 2, 1988, in Seoul, South Korea. 159 nations were represented at the games by a total of 8,391 athletes (6,197 men/2,194 women). 237 events were held and 27,221 volunteers helped to prepare for the Olympics. The United States had 527 athletes participate. Team USA placed 3rd in the number of metals: 94 total (36-gold, 31-silver, 27-bronze).
