Front Description

Global Security pins are given to Disney/security staff cast members at the Dolby Theater (Hollywood, CA) during movie world premieres, live action events and other specialized events to identify they are a member of that event’s security detail. This round pin has a 1/8 inch bronze intricately designed border. The center is solid black. Disney MULAN is centered in red. WORLD PREMIER is printed on the top. GLOBAL SECURITY is printed on the bottom of the pin. Pin measures 1 inch in diameter. Mulan held its world premiere at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, CA on March 9, 2020. All eyes were on Yifei Liu, who stars as Hua Mulan as she walked the red carpet. The Chinese actress was joined by director Niki Caro, co-stars Jet Li and Donnie Yen, and Disney Legends Christina Aguilera and Ming-Na Wen. More than 1,000 actresses had tried out for the lead role before Caro discovered Liu three years earlier. I put her through the most punishing audition any actress has ever been put through, the director said with a laugh. Having flown from Beijing to Los Angeles, and not having slept for two days, that young woman never flamed out! She never gave up. She never asked to stop. I knew in the end that we’d found our warrior. Even before the cameras rolled, Liu and her co-stars spent months preparing to play soldiers in the Imperial Army. We would train for 5-7 hours a day, five days a week, for four months-and that was before filming, said Yoson An, who plays Chen Honghui. We would train after filming, too. We would film for 12 hours, then train for two hours after that. We’d eat, sleep, repeat until it was over. Jimmy Wong, who plays Ling, said they learned everything from how to ride horses to how to do stunts. The film was originally scheduled for a wide theatrical release later in March, but was cancelled in the US after being delayed several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Subsequently, the film was released on September 4, 2020 by Disney+ for a premium fee known as Premier Access in countries where the service had launched. The film had a traditional theatrical release in countries without Disney+ where theaters had re-opened. Due to its overall limited theatrical release as a result of the pandemic, the film grossed $69.9 million at the box office against a production budget of $200 million. The film received generally positive reviews from Western, non-Asian critics, who praised the action sequences, costumes, and performances, but was criticized for the screenplay and editing. However, it received unfavorable reviews from fans of the original animated film, Chinese diaspora, and Chinese critics, who criticized the character development, its cultural and historical inaccuracies, and its depiction of Chinese people. At the 93rd Academy Awards and 26th Critics' Choice Awards, the film received nominations for its costume design and visual effects, as well as a Best Special Visual Effects nod at the 74th British Academy Film Awards.
