Front Description

Twenty-four characters from the World of Disney were selected to be represented through symbols and colors on 24 different cloisonné pins. The individual pins could be “hung” as “ornaments” either on the pop up pin card Christmas Tree or with the aide of the attached black ribbon onto a real Christmas Tree. These pins were sold in a large case with 24 numbered drawers. This pin, dedicated to the movie Hercules is inspired by his biggest fans, the Muses. These five goddesses of the arts act as a literal Greek Chorus as they tell the story by narration and by singing 4 of the 6 songs featured throughout this movie. The songs they join in on are “The Gospel Truth,” “Zero to Hero,” “I Won’t Say I’m in Love,” and a “Star is Born.” Since this group of goddesses do rule over the domain of the arts, they can manifest in existence through virtually any form where their likenesses are portrayed in works of art. Examples of some of these works of art include painting, statues, or in this case, on a pin designed to resemble an ornament. The ornament has been modeled after a Grecian vase so that the background is the dark ruddy color of earthen clay. Hercules’s Olympian Medal with the cloud and lightening bolt graphic is placed in the center of the ornament topper. An image of a coppery-clay colored Grecian urn, boasting the stylized profile of Hercules is directly below the medallion. A white bar runs the length of the lib behind the image of the copper-colored urn. The word “Zero” is left of the urn while “Hero” is to the right, written in the white bar. A Greek-style font is used to give both words a very angular look. A meander (a decorative border that is designed in a way to create a continuous, single line shape in a repeating pattern) cuts across this pin. This border is replicated at the bottom of the pin. Between these two borders are the silhouettes of the Muses, standing with the two shortest of the outside edges and staggering up to the tallest in the center. Terpsichore is on the far left of this line and is the Muse of Dance. The Muse of Tragedy, Melpomene is second in the line. At the center is Calliope, the Muse of Epic Poetry. Clio is the Muse of History and stands fourth in line. Thalia is the shortest Muse and thus is positioned at the end of the line. She is the Muse of Comedy and is known for being mischievous.
