This pin was given to attendees of the 1999 Disneyana Convention. It shows Rafiki meditating on a rock in front of the African sun. The border color is dark green with yellow wording. In 1999 some 2,000 Disneyana collectors and enthusiasts (referred to as ConventionEars) encountered a safari adventure-themed for the Official Disneyana Convention, Sept 7-11, at Disney's Contemporary Resort and Convention Center. Past themes included ''75 Years of Love and Laughter,'' Disney Villains and ''Fantasia.'' A dedicated team of Disney event planners worked year-round to ensure that the theme graceed every part of the only annual, official convention. From the art on display to the seminars and workshops, and even to the extravagantly themed parties. The Official Disneyana Convention has come to mean both serious business as well as fun for those who attend. There's the Antiques and Collectibles Show, where dealers from around the world sell and trade Disneyana, and an auction that annually sees one-of-a- kind items ''on the block'' for thousands of dollars. Also foremost on many ConventionEars' minds are the items sold as official logo merchandise and limited editions. Limited edition pieces are created exclusively for the convention by world-re-nowned artists such as Christopher Radko, Disney Legend Marc Davis, Swarvoski, Waterford Crystal and Walt Disney Art Classics. For fun, ConventionEars participated in hands-on, interactive seminars and workshops, enjoyed a lavish banquet, outrageous parties, and even share in the exciting opportunity of meeting many of the artists who've created Disney magic in art. Special guest Roy Disney was a featured speaker for this year's event. A limited number of convention packages were available. 1999 Official Disneyana Convention packages started at $1,269 per person based on double occupancy and included four nights accommodations (Disney's Contemporary Resort or Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa); a theme park ticket valid for unlimited admission to all four Walt Disney World theme parks Sept. 6-12; admission to the Limited Edition Private Sale, the Official Disneyana Convention auction and special convention events (some seminars/ workshops required an additional fee); receptions and a private theme park party; two breakfast coupons, one lunch coupon; and artist appearances featuring Disney animators, character voices and celebrities. Each year, the general public had the opportunity to attend convention festivities on Public Day, Sept. 11, from 1-6 pm. Admission was $10 per person.
